My design journey began with costume and involves several years designing costumes and hats  for theatre productions and exhibitions. I then decided to return to study and discovered a new passion designing and making jewellery. Currently I'm continuing my studies on a BA(Hons) in Design Practice and have discovered the joy of printmaking and collage.

Riso Printing

These Riso prints were created using maps of Cincinnati which has particular significance to me as a city. I used the outline of the city to create the larger shapes, adding the shape of the Ohio river running through it. I have also added the grid system along with major highways and an underground map.

Typography

The brief for this project was to use type to recreate famous Glasgow landmarks to celebrate Glasgow 850.

My landmark was this iconic Bell's bridge. I used various fonts in different sizes and weights to create this image. The image was then used to print onto tote bags and fabric. it was etched into acrylic and crops were incorporated into an A5 publication.

The brief for this project was to choose a Stalled Space in Glasgow and repurpose it in some way.

I chose the derelict Gartloch Psychiatric Hospital and designed a Peace Garden and Community Cinema for the space. This design then had to be relocated into the Venice Biennale, so I chose to float both the garden and the cinema on pontoons in the Gaggiadre (the wet dock of the Arsenale).

Prototype for the 'Memory Tree' I designed for my Advanced Design Project. The tree will have acrylic and felt leaves with symbols and photos to be matched and hung onto the tree with magnets. The idea is to promote conversation and prompt the retrieval of memories for people living with Dementia.
